Other Ways To Give

While time, money and supplies are the most common donations to Habitat, there are several other ways to give as well, including donating your stocks, retirement accounts, life insurance, charitable gift annuity, IRA withdrawal, or other gifts of cash, securities and/or other assets.

A Habitat Gift for Today & Beyond

While time, money and supplies are the most common donations to Habitat, there are several other ways to give as well, including donating your stocks, retirement accounts, life insurance, charitable gift annuity, IRA withdrawal, or other gifts of cash, securities and/or other assets.

The easiest way to make a gift of securities is to do an electronic transfer. Your broker will need to contact Jeremy Stephens (270-926-6110 opt 3 or HFHODV@gmail.com) to set up planned giving.

Donations of complex assets allow us to ensure that even more families around the world have a safe, affordable place to call home. The local housing crisis presents an ever-growing need, and we use everything at our disposal to respond.

Thank you for joining us in our work to help families build strength, stability and
independence through shelter. Everyone deserves a decent place to live, and everyone can do something today to make that possible for another family.

Help Us Build the Future Through Gifts of Real Estate

Donate a home or land parcel and help Habitat with the first step in the building process! By making a gift of real estate, the donation provides you with tax-benefits while making a personal impact for local families.

Gifts of real estate include undeveloped land, residential and commercial property in Owensboro-Daviess County. The property can be in or out of the city limits, but we are unable to accept land that is located in a flood plain. Habitat looks for land large enough to build at least a single family home. A larger lot would possibly allow us to build multiple housing units, giving us the ability to help more than one family per build. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a possible land donation, contact us at 270-926-6110 or email HFHODV@gmail.com.

Real Estate Gifts May Be Accepted in a Variety of Ways

Outright Gift: Donor transfers the property for retention and use by the Habitat For Humanity or for immediate liquidation with proceeds directed according to donor intent. Bargain Sale: Donor sells the property to Habitat for less than its appraised fair market value and receives a charitable deduction for the difference between the value of the property and the sale price.

Bequest: Donor bequeaths the property to Habitat For Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County in his or her will or revocable (living) trust. If a gift of real estate is encumbered by a mortgage or lien, Habitat will request the donor pay off the debt prior to making the donation.

Please consider this information as a starting point.  With all charitable gifts, it is important to consult with your attorney or financial adviser to ensure that you comply with state laws, receive maximum tax benefits, and that your wishes are accurately reflected in necessary legal documents.

Please contact us with any questions you have about donating your gift. You can reach us at 270-926-6110, or by email at HFHODV@gmail.com.

Thank you for joining HFHODV us in our work to help families build strength, stability and independence through shelter. Everyone deserves a safe, decent and affordable place to live, and everyone can do something today to make that possible for another family.

Becoming an Advocate for Habitat For Humanity

When you advocate on behalf of Habitat For Humanity, you will join people in your own community and all over the world who are advocating for more access to safe and affordable housing. This is something Kentucky falls short on and Habitat Owensboro-Daviess County strive to make a difference everyday to building more affordable homes for lower income families.

Rules and regulations about land and building have a major effect on access to housing. In places where there are smart policies in place, there is more access to decent housing. In other places where there are counterproductive policies and systems, there can be barriers that make it difficult for people to find land for construction, build the home itself or be able to afford a place to live.

Habitat For Humanity serves as a voice for people in need of decent housing by working to change laws and shape policies that affect access to housing. Our advocacy approach is based on decades of on-the-ground experience and policy expertise. With our deep understanding of housing and its role in providing opportunities for families, we seek to reform laws in a non-confrontational, nonpartisan way. Just like building, advocating for smart policies and systems is a way to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Since 2017, Habitat Owensboro-Daviess County has traveled to Frankfort, Ky every year to meet with our State Representatives and help start the Affordable Housing Caucus. In 2020, we invited one of our homeowners to travel with us and to go tell her story of how her Habitat home not only gave her an affordable place to call home, but helped save her in so many ways.

This was also the year that the 20/20 Housing Vision was started. We will continue to go again and again each year to make our voices heard on the needs of our community for gaining access to more safe and affordable housing in Owensboro-Daviess County! Habitat Owensboro-Daviess County not only fights for affordable housing, but we offer so many educational opportunities for the families we serve and many of the other opportunities we have in partnering with other local non-profits.
